The 2026/2027 school calendar includes holidays, Christmas breaks and days off worth considering when planning family trips. Additional headteacher days may extend some breaks, but their dates depend on the school.
When planning time off during the 2026/2027 school year, compare the Ministry of National Education calendar with your child's school schedule. This helps match parents' leave to school-free days and choose travel dates without missed lessons. Below are the break dates and when a longer rest requires additional headteacher days.
Headteacher days – what are they and where to check
Headteacher days are additional days off from classes, set by the school head. They may fall during exams or between a public holiday and a weekend. Dates vary by school, so check the schedule in the electronic register or on the school's website before planning a trip.
A headteacher day does not mean the school is closed – the school provides care and educational activities. If your children attend different schools, compare their calendars, as additional days off may fall on different dates.
October and November – autumn breaks from school
National Education Day, known as Teachers' Day, falls on Wednesday, 14 October 2026. It is a day off from lessons, although the school may organise ceremonies and other activities. Before planning a trip, check how this day will be organised at your child's school.
If the headteacher designates 12 and 13 October as additional days off, the break will run from 12 to 14 October. Combined with the preceding weekend, this means five days without lessons, from 10 to 14 October, suitable for an autumn trip.
National Independence Day, 11 November 2026, also falls on a Wednesday. The holiday itself provides one day off school. A longer break will be possible if the school calendar includes headteacher days before or after it.
Christmas and early January – when are children off school?
Winter Christmas break will run from 23 to 31 December 2026, according to the Ministry of National Education calendar. New Year's Day follows on Friday, 1 January, with the weekend of 2–3 January. Pupils will therefore return to lessons no earlier than Monday, 4 January 2027.
The period from 1 to 6 January is not automatically entirely free from school. Epiphany falls on Wednesday, 6 January, while 4 and 5 January are normally school days. If the headteacher designates them as additional days off, the break will run continuously from 23 December to 6 January, 15 days in total.
Winter holidays 2027 – dates by region
Winter holidays in the 2026/2027 school year take place in three rounds. Dates depend on the child's school region, not the planned holiday destination.
- 18–31 January 2027 Podkarpackie, Podlaskie, Lower Silesian, Łódź, Silesian, Opole
- 1–14 February 2027 Mazovian, Pomeranian, Świętokrzyskie, Lublin
- 15–28 February 2027 Lubusz, Kuyavian-Pomeranian, Warmian-Masurian, Greater Poland, West Pomeranian, Lesser Poland

Easter 2027 – six days off lessons
The spring Christmas break will run from 25 to 30 March 2027, Thursday to Tuesday. Easter falls on 28 March, and Easter Monday on 29 March. According to the Ministry calendar, pupils will return to lessons on Wednesday, 31 March.
The six-day break allows you to combine family celebrations with a few days away. It requires no additional headteacher days, so it can be included in plans regardless of the school's decision.
May Day weekend 2027 – 3-day weekend
The 2027 May Day weekend is 1–3 May, Saturday to Monday. If the school designates no additional days off, pupils return to lessons Tuesday, 4 May.
The three-day break permits a short family trip. For a longer stay, check whether the school schedule includes headteacher days immediately before or after the May Day weekend.
Eighth-grade exam, 10–12 May – younger classes may have days off
The eighth-grade exam will take place from 10 to 12 May 2027, Monday to Wednesday. According to the Central Examination Board schedule, pupils will take Polish on 10 May, mathematics on 11 May and a modern foreign language on 12 May.
For eighth-graders, these are exam days; for younger pupils, they may be headteacher days. If the school grants days off then, the weekend of 8–9 May creates a five-day break. Families with younger children could plan a trip from 8 to 12 May.
Corpus Christi 2027 – a possible four-day weekend
Corpus Christi in 2027 falls Thursday, 27 May. If the headteacher designates Friday, 28 May, as an additional day off, the lesson break lasts four days, 27–30 May.
The Friday after Corpus Christi is not automatically a day off at every school. Before booking a stay covering this period, check whether 28 May is listed among the headteacher days.
